The Raw Chocolate Co.


How it all started





It all began with a few innocent experiments in the kitchen.




Having discovered the potential breadth of the raw food diet, Linus, our founder and guiding chocolate jedi-master, decided to explore just what was possible with raw cacao.




Inevitably there were a number of disasters before Linus found the path to true cacao wisdom, but with time, patience, and perseverance he slowly mastered the art. At which point he felt it was time to share his scrumptious creations with friends and family.





The response was overwhelming - the chocolate wasn't just quite tasty, it was delicious, and people went wild for it.


Linus thought he might well be on to something.



That was when the serious experiments started: early starts, late finishes... Linus evolved into something of a mad scientist, but when he emerged from his chocolate laboratory he had the recipe for his chocolates, and a shining glint in his eye.




That shining glint was what quickly became the raw Chocolate Company.




Founded in early 2006, the Raw Chocolate Company is now ten people strong and expanding, and is fast becoming a favourite with chocolate lovers all over the world.






The Benefits of Raw




Many foods can be enjoyed unheated - you already know about lots of them: fresh vegetables and fruit, fresh juices, dry and sprouted nuts, seeds, pulses and grains and cold-pressed oils. Some foods you may be less familiar with: fermented and dehydrated foods and a variety of superfoods such as micro-algae and seaweeds, cereal grasses, bee pollen. And then, of course, our favourite: raw cacao!








These are some of the benefits of raw food:


  • All fresh vegetable/plant foods contain enzymes that aid digestion. Heating can degrade many of these enzymes, increasing the strain on the body's own enzyme production.

  • Eating food with reduced enzymes makes digestion more difficult. This in turn can contribute to toxicity in the body, excess consumption of food, and ultimately obesity and chronic disease.

  • Raw foods contain friendly bacteria and other micro-organisms that stimulate the immune system and enhance digestion by populating the digestive tract with beneficial flora.

  • Living and raw foods generally have higher nutrient values than most cooked foods

We're not here to tell you how to live, but we do believe that eating more raw, living foods leads to greater well-being. That's why we're so excited about our chocolate - it's raw, it's living, and best of all: it's chocolate!
