I was speaking to a gynecologist recently and she said if she scanned 50 women’s ovaries after Easter when they have all had an abundance of junk foods and lots of carbohydrates at least 40 of them would have ovarian cysts. Amazing isn’t it, that food can interfere with your system so quickly. Food heals and food destroys, it’s that simple and the choices we make play a part in how we feel every day!
So, of course the first thing I am going to ask you to do is look at the foods you are eating on a daily basis. If you think you have a healthy diet, try writing everything down that you eat for a few days to get a clear picture of what you are ingesting. A high carbohydrate diet, a diet with lots of junk foods, processed vegetable oils, trans fats, or stimulants such as tea, coffee and chocolate will undoubtedly effect the functioning of your hormones as they exhaust the adrenal glands. Add all of these foods with a stressful lifestyle, lack of sleep, and the balance is tipping over the edge. Disease within the body such as depression, hair loss, bad skin conditions, mood swings and possibly thyroid dysfunction are just some illnesses that can manifest if your hormones are out of balance.
Dairy products are very acidic on our systems and milk, cheese and ice cream may contain more than you imagine. Most cows have unfortunately been treated with BGH (Bovine Growth Hormone) and antibiotics. Both steroids and antibiotics reside in milk and interfere with your hormone system. Organic dairy products from independents milk producers are your best choice if you can’t live without the white stuff in your diet, but moderation is key! Remember, there is more calcium in a sprig of parsley, a floret of broccoli or a handful of spinach than 2 pints of milk, and our bodies know exactly how to utilize it efficiently when it's come from this natural plant source.
Another good way to look after your hormone function is to opt for purified water. Your hormones will be delighted as you are removing some of those nasty chemicals in our tap water! You can also add lots of kelp into your daily diet, as it’s an excellent herb for regulationofthe thyroid. As it is high in iodine, iron and potassium and various B vitamins and minerals it makes it a very alkalizing food substance. Parsley is another herb to be used daily as a great vitamin boost and hormone balancer. It contains a high source of iron and three times as much vitamin C as citrus fruits! It also contains an abundance of vitamin A and B and is another great hormone regulator.
Dandelion root herbs imulates the liver, which helps clear out toxins, waste and bacteria so therefore balance can be restored. Alfalfa sprouts contain eight essential amino acids that our bodies need as well as Vitamins A, K, iron, calcium, magnesium and potassium. All very alkalizing minerals that are going to help restore balance within the body.
Chlorophyll is also essential and is found in all dark green leafy vegetables, as well as tinctures and green powders. It is a cleansing and purifying agent that stimulates the bowels and is a powerful blood strengthener. How fabulous is that!!
Another great hormone balancer is Maca. Maca is often referred to as a natural hormone balancer, an adaptagen that can treat symptoms of menopause and sexual dysfunction in both men and women and has powerful aphrodisiac effects, so try it if you dare!!
