Salt - should we, or shouldn't we?

Over the years ‘experts’ have told us that we should avoid salt because allegedly too much can lead to heart problems, fluid retention and high blood pressure. This is good advice when we are referring to common table salt, which is stripped of its trace minerals, leaving only sodium and chloride, not to mention the anti-caking agent/chemical that is added here in the uk to prevent it absorbing any moisture! Sea salt is a much better choice, but even this is subject to the varying degrees of pollution found within the sea.

In my opinion salt is necessary in our diets in its most natural and pure form. It is very important to get the best quality to get the full benefit, and you can’t go far wrong with Himalayan Crystal Salt. It is amazingly nutrient rich and is essential for maintaining the healthy functioning of cells, nerve conduction, digestion, absorption and the elimination of waste from our bodies. It gives life-generating power to the body and the nervous system because of its high nutritional value. Now there is always a danger when something is being promoted as being really good for us that we go and buy this product and overdose on it! I need to stress that we only need a few grams per day (6) and salt should remain slightly limited within your diet, but we do actually need salt to function properly and help maintain the delicate balance of the Ph of the body. Here is a little tip….If anyone has problems getting to sleep try popping a pinch of Himalayan crystal salt under the tongue and washing it down with some water. It calms the nervous system because of its high mineral (magnesium) content and sends you off into a relaxing sleep! Try it and see what happens!

The Himalayan Mountains where the salt is collected are over 250 million years old and are as pure as ancient primal oceans and contains all minerals and trace elements essential to human life.  This particular salt is very recognizable as it has a very distinctive rose pink colour and is now readily available from good health stores and/or can be bought on the internet.  The healing properties of salt have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years. I thought it was so interesting when I found out that the largest, oldest salt works in Europe occupies the royal salt mines of Wieliczka in Poland. A hospital was carved out of the salt mountains, hundreds of feet below the surface specifically for asthmatics and patients with lung disease and allergies. Several thousands of patients have been treated there with apparently a 90% success rate!

Salt in its purest form is essential, it always has been. However when man decided to tamper with nature we created imbalances and even cell damage. Salt in its traditional form has many benefits for our health and in my opinion Himalayan salt has everything that we need.

Try swapping your table salt today!
